NPU News Network----April 26, 2012, three Nobel Prize winners were appointed as honorary professors of NPU. The appointment ceremony was held on Youyi campus, NPU. To date, five Nobel Prize winners, including Tsung-Dao Lee, were appointed as honorary professors of NPU.
Vice President Wang Wei introduced the academic achievements of the professors on the ceremony.
President Jiang Chengyu delivered welcome speech. On behalf of NPU, the president extended great welcome and expressed the desire for the cooperation with internationally famous professors in order to improve the quality of education. He said, “today, we await three Nobel Prize winners. You are idols of NPU people.”
President Jiang then helped the professors wear NPU school badge and presented the letter of appointment.
Professor Hartmut Michel from Germany expressed the hope to seek for good opportunities to have deep cooperation and exchange with NPU on behalf of the three Nobel Prize winners.
The honorary professors are the 2011 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Dan Shechtman, the 2005 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine J. Robin Warren and the 1988 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Hartmut Michel.
After the ceremony, the professors presented academic reports, visited NPU and had face-to-face discussion with the faculty and students of NPU.
Heads of Office of International Cooperation, Office of Publicity, Office of University Research, School of Materials Sciences, School of Natural and Applied Sciences, School of Life Sciences also attended the ceremony.
